Oldest Temple. Kantajiw Temple is an Oldest Temple in Bangladesh. Not only that, maybe, Oldest Temple in the World. It’s a late-medieval tample. Kantajiw tample is one of the most magnificent religious edifices belonging 18th century.
Kantajiw Temple –
Build : Started in 1722 and ended in 1752.
Hight : 50 feet. (but it was 70 feet.) Once had nine spires but all were destroyed in a earthquake that took place 1897.
Terrakotta : 15000. (out side the tample has covered by fifteen thousand terrakottes.)
Place : Kantanagar, Kaharol, Dinajpur, Bangladesh.
Kantajiw Temple build by maharaja Pran Nath. It’s construction started in 1722 CN and ended by his adopted son Raja Ramnath 1752 CN. The temple belongs to the hindu popular God Krisna, and is most popular with the assemble of memorable love of Radha-Krishna in Bangal…. Dedicated to Krishana and his wife Rukmini. Kantaji Tample is one of the greatest examples of terracotta architecture in Bangladesh. Not only that, it maybe, idea-theme and style of architecture is most important in the world.
Out side the tample has covered by (15000) fifteen thousands terracottas. Kantajiw Tample is looking very beautiful. It has a theme – Radha and Krishna. Story of Ramayan-Mahavarat and history of late-medieval is main subject of that terrakottas. Planer is like a story writer. It’s exceptional. It’s religious thought. But style of architecture is very important. Various type of terracotta and style is amazing.
